In one sentence: My Desktop Tab does not collect, transmit or sell any data. Everything you create in the extension stays on your device.
01What the extension does
My Desktop Tab replaces the browser's "new tab" page with a customizable dashboard: quick links, videos, bookmarks, folders, RSS/Atom feeds, clock and wallpaper. Everything you create or change in the extension — links, folders, display settings, wallpaper images, custom icons and feed subscriptions — is saved only in the browser's local storage (browser.storage.local or chrome.storage.local).
02Data collected
None. The extension does not collect, store on a server or send to anyone: identity, email, location, browsing history, website content, click or keystroke activity, financial or authentication information.
No request is sent to any third-party service for tracking, analytics or advertising — the extension includes none.
03Network requests
The extension only makes network requests to sites you chose yourself, and only in the following cases:
- Custom icon from a URL — the image is downloaded once to be saved locally, and is never fetched from the network again.
- Favicons — the icon of sites added to your page is fetched to be displayed and kept locally (including offline).
- RSS/Atom feeds — the content of feeds you subscribe to is refreshed periodically, at most once every 20 minutes, when a new tab is opened.
- Videos — the title and thumbnail are read from the video site (YouTube, Vimeo, Streamable), and its player is only loaded when you start playback.
Access to a site (an optional browser permission) is only requested when you add the icon or feed that needs it.
04Access to your bookmarks
The extension reads the bookmarks in your bookmarks toolbar (and their subfolders) only to display them in the dashboard, through a dedicated tile. It never creates, modifies, reorders or deletes any bookmark.
05Protected folders
The content of a protected folder is encrypted (AES-256-GCM) directly in your browser with the password you choose. This password is never stored in plain text or sent anywhere.
06Sharing with third parties
No data is sold, rented or transferred to any third party. There is no back-end server associated with this extension: there is literally no one other than you to whom your data could be sent.
07Exporting / deleting your data
You can export your entire configuration to a file from the extension's settings at any time, and delete it completely by uninstalling the extension — the browser then erases the associated local storage.
08Changes to this policy
This page may be updated as the extension evolves. The date at the top of the page shows the latest change.
